ABSTRACT

In this chapter on teacher learning we describe a case study of a workshop our team held with STEM teachers at Nedlam’s Workshop. It focuses on two mathematics teachers who were making three-dimensional shapes first out of paper and then with a 3D printer and extruded plastic. The chapter discusses how teachers creating new kinds of representations developed insights about mathematics and the tools they used with students. It also discusses the ways in which relationships to students, and values of making spaces, need to be considered when integrating making into STEM classrooms.
