ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes this book’s examination of young bisexual women’s experiences in secondary schools. Having revealed a paucity of academic literature regarding this topic (see Chapter 2 “Literature Review”), the book has attempted to add to educational literature through a specific focus on these experiences. In doing so, specific discriminatory practices have been identified and named as bisexual misrecognition and bi-misogyny. Participant narratives have helped demonstrate how such practices possibly occurring in some schools may invisibilize, exclude and erase these young women as bisexual. The findings of the project also described how some participants experienced positive outcomes of acceptance and validation from within their school communities.
