Manuscript submission

Authors should retain an additional copy of the manuscript and figures. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically. Electronic submissions should be sent as email attachments using a standard program, such as MSWORD. If email submission is not possible, please send an electronic version on disc or CD-ROM along with three paper copies, together with one set of high quality figures for reproduction. If you submit your manuscript via email you will not need to send any paper copies.
Manuscript preparation
Full articles should normally be 4000 to 7000 words in length. Shorter articles, normally of 1000 to 2000 words are also welcome. All articles must be accompanied by a summary of 100 to 150 words. Contributions should avoid assuming that the reader has a high level of theoretical or empirical knowledge of any particular academic discipline; minimise the use of jargon: avoid unexplained acronyms and thereby provide material which is not only of a high quality but also accessible to a broad range of readership.
Articles will only be considered if:
- typed on one side of paper (if submitting paper copies), double spaced, with ample margins,
- bear the title of the contribution, name(s) of the author(s) and the main address for correspondence,
- any tables are typed on separate sheets and not included as part of the text,
- any figures such as maps or line graphs are produced on separate sheets in finished form, not photocopies,
- the approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript.
Footnotes should be kept to a minimum. Please number them consecutively and list them at the end of the article. Short reports on new developments, current issues, recent conferences, research in progress, or the results of research are always welcome. They should generally not exceed 1000 words. Letters and comments are also welcome.
References
References should be restricted to those necessary to sustain statements in the text or likely to be of value to general readers. In the text they should be indicated by giving the authors name with the year of publication in parentheses. They should be listed at the end of the submission, giving the authors name with initials, date of publication, title, publisher of journal, volume and page reference in the case of a journal article. Titles of journals should not be abbreviated. If several papers by the same author in the same year are cited, use a, b, c, etc. after the year of publication. The references should be listed at the end of the article in the following standard form:
- For books: Torkildsen, G. (1992) Leisure and Recreation Management, London, E & FN Spon.
- For articles: Coalter, F. (1993) Sports participation: price or priorities? Leisure Studies, 12(1), 171–182.
- For chapters in books: Stabler, M. (1990) Financial management and leisure provision, in: I. Henry (ed) Management and Planning in the Leisure Industries, London, Macmillan, pp. 1–37.
Submission of a paper to Managing Leisure will be taken to imply that it represents original, unpublished work, not under consideration for publication elsewhere. If an article is being considered for publication elsewhere, full details must be given. On submission of a manuscript, authors will be sent a form to transfer copyright to the Publisher. On acceptance the author should return the signed and completed form to the Publishers. The copyright covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microfilm or any reproduction of a similar nature, and translations. Production Process
Decisions of the Editor are final. All materials accepted for publication is subject to copyediting. Authors will receive page proofs of their article before publication and should answer all queries and carefully check all editorial changes at this point. Authors are responsible for the scientific content of their article.
Free article access
Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. The original manuscript and figures will be discarded one month after publication unless the publisher is requested to return original material to the author.
