Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

The manuscript in its final foam, including reproducible figures, should be sent by e-mail to sabine.payr@ofai.at in Latex, Word or RTF format, plus in PDF.  The journal will only accept electronic submissions.  
Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. 
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduced copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher.  All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Order of Presentation

Page 1 of the manuscript should include a brief, clear, and descriptive article title (10 words or fewer), author name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) including zip code(s), an abbreviated title (maximum of 40 characters) to be used as a running head, and a complete mailing address for proofs. Subsequent material should be arranged as follows: abstract of 50-150 words, introduction, main body of paper, references, tables, figure captions, and figures.

Preparation of Manuscript

The manuscript must be typed, double-spaced (including references), as single column text, and with margins of at least 1 inch.  All pages should be numbered.

Equations

Only equations referred to in the text  should be numbered serially at the right margin by Arabic numerals in parentheses.  They should be cited in the text in the following manner: Eq. (10), Eqs. (10)-(16).

Computer Languages and Instructions

Titles of computer languages should be capitalized (for example, LISP, PROLOG). Syntax words should be in boldface, comments in roman, and everything else in italic.

Footnotes

Any footnotes of acknowledgment or author identification will appear on the opening page of the paper. Text footnotes should be keyed with symbols (*, t, t, @) by page.

References

In-text citations have to follow the pattern (author, year).
Alphabetize the reference list by author and double space it in a separate section at the end of the paper. Reference style should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed.(Journal article, book, thesis, report, proceedings, and edited book):

Brachman, R. J. 1983. What isa is and isn't: An analysis of taxonomic networks. IEEE Comput. October:67-73.

Columbus, P. Q., and O. B. Smith. 1984. Artificial Intelligence. 2d ed. 2 vols. London: Oxford University Press.

Cite references in the text by author and date: (Brachman, 1983), (Columbus and Smith, 1984), (Hartley et al., 1982).

Illustrations

Illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files.  Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • Sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only

Color Reproduction: Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost in color art reproduction.  Color art can be purchased for online only reproduction or for print + online reproduction.  Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid.  Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies.  Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color.  A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.

Reprints

Each corresponding author of an article will receive one pdf file via e-mail.  This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. Reprints of Individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs.  A discount of reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
