ABSTRACT

Reinforcing bars are produced in stock lengths, e.g. approximately 6 m for 8 mm diameter, and 12 m for 32 mm diameter. These stock lengths may be cut or terminated for the following reasons:

to fit the member,

to economise in steel, e.g. curtailment of bars in order to use fewer bars where the bending moment reduces along the length of a member and

to make construction easier.
