ABSTRACT
A reinforced column is a vertical member designed to resist an axial force and bending moments about the two principal axes. Most reinforced concrete columns are rectangular in section, but circular sections are not uncommon. This chapter covers the design of columns with a rectangular cross section where the larger dimension is not greater than four times the smaller dimension (cl 9.5.1, EN).
