ABSTRACT

Infrared (IR) reflectography is a non-destructive imaging technique used in the field of cultural heritage analysis mainly to examine ancient paintings and manuscripts on papyrus. In the first case, it is used to make visible the under-drawing under the paint layer and to store a precise map of previous restorations. In the second case, it is used to improve the readability of those texts in which the support has remarkably darkened or is carbonised.
