ABSTRACT

Photography is the primary medium for documenting a historical site at a defined time and for preserving this information for future generations. Producing and archiving this information is vital for future use by restorers, historians, architects, and the public. Sometimes the detailed early photographs from the nineteenth century may be the only information we can rely on. It is important to consider, when dealing with cultural objects, that the images produced are often made for the national archive, therefore they should always be taken to the highest possible quality. At present the national archives require black-and-white negative material along with colour negative and/or transparency film. The integration of digital images is a new task.
