ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the circumstances calling for a two-day or a one-day programme and presents guidelines for choosing the content of two- and one-day sessions. The content should include standard topics for a new employee orientation programme. The topics include company history and context; terms and conditions; policies and procedures; and employee programmes and services. The two-day design is a more comprehensive and more effective option than a one-day programme. However, the requirements, directives and resources of an organization will drive the length of the programme as well as its content. The chapter provides a list of the participant handouts and facilitator tools suggested for use in the two-day and one-day new employee orientation programmes. It also presents sample agendas for a two-day employee orientation programme and a one-day employee orientation programme.
