ABSTRACT

Introduction Since the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code in July of 2004, all Ship’s Officers have been made aware of the need to be security conscious. This is not to say that before this time personnel were ignorant to the dangers and security risks which have always been associated with the maritime industries. The fact that ports have now installed better security fences, X-ray detection methods, close monitoring of dock transports, and tighter control of crews seems to have provided some degree of improved marine security.
