ABSTRACT
The file format used to save data by specific application programs. For example, Adobe Photoshop® uses its own Photoshop format, which slightly compresses data when saving. Native file formats must be used in order to store information regarding layers, etc. and when the data is to be re-read by the same program. They generally should not be used for transferring files into other applications such as desktop publishing programs.
