ABSTRACT

Given […] the idea of ‘information’ as selected data (or capta) to which meaning has been attributed in a particular context [and] the basic premise that information systems exist to serve and support people taking purposeful action, we can now begin to enrich the concept of what is conventionally referred to as ‘an information system’. This we shall do by exploring the nature of the processes that go on within organizations and between different organizations, processes in which information will play an important role.
