ABSTRACT
Surface regularity has been the focus of great interest in recent years. For most of the twentieth century, floor designers either ignored surface regularity or tried to control it with specifications based on a 3-m (10-ft) straightedge. Those straightedge tolerances were rarely enforced; indeed, effective enforcement was next to impossible because there was no standard test.
