Unit 3 Principles of Design, Planning and Prototyping
In this unit you will study the principles of engineering design, planning and prototyping. You will design and manufacture an engineered product which can be electrical, mechanical, fluidic, electronic or any combination of these. The choice of product will be yours but will be subject to a number of constraints, including the information, materials and resources that are available to you. In order to give you an idea of what is required, we shall start by providing you with an example of an engineering product and the various stages that turned an initial design brief into a fully functional prototype. This example should give you an insight into the stages required to develop your own product before we look at engineering design, planning and prototyping in greater depth.
