Some years ago I was asked to advise on a claim being made against a surveyor in respect of his failure to note in his report that the ground floor slabs had sunk. The house had been built in the 1950s on a sloping site to a fairly cheap specification and as a consequence of the failure to consolidate the fill material under the concrete floors, and the use of unsuitable fill material, the floors had settled significantly and unevenly throughout the ground floor rooms.
