ABSTRACT

Tender Documentation is the overall or inclusive title given to the final two design stages: Final Proposals (Work Stage E) and Production Information (Work Stage F). These are the stages where design decisions are concluded to form part of the project that will eventually go out to tender. If incorrect decisions are made that lead to the budget being exceeded then the documentation will have to amended, either before the contract is signed or as part of a variation, or variations, to reduce the contract sum to within the budgeted amount. Obviously, if the project documentation has to be amended this is not a satisfactory state of affairs and can be measured as a failure on the part of the design team. Therefore, everyone in the design team should redouble their efforts in the Final Proposals and Production Information stages to prevent this unsatisfactory conclusion. If it means changing a favourite detail or cherished material without compromising the quality of the project, then it must be done.
