ABSTRACT

In this chapter attention is focused primarily on the selection of employees from outside the employing organization. However, it should be emphasized that the systematic approach to the selection of employees may and should apply to people who are already employed by the appointing organization. While there will always be inevitable problems in predicting future behaviour in a new job, employers obviously have considerable advantages when dealing with people already in their employ. The employers already know what knowledge and skills existing employees have. Perhaps, more importantly, they know what attitudes and personal attributes these people display in performing their jobs.
