ABSTRACT
I went on my first computer course in 1957 – early days! The computer occupied the whole top floor of Imperial Chemical House in Millbank (the top floor, in order to facilitate cooling, because it was all thermionic valves). But the people who ran it had divined its character. “We call the computerTOM” they said,“which stands for Thoroughly Obedient Moron”.
