ABSTRACT

One of the most successful jazz organisations outside London, the Anglia Modern Jazz Club, celebrated 25 years of high quality jazz in 1997. The Club’s founder and animateur had worked for a county council for several years, promoting jazz in the region. On the basis of her demonstrated success in these two ventures, jazz lovers from the club’s committee joined her in preparing an Arts for Everyone (A4E) proposal in May 1997 to create an integrated jazz service for two eastern counties. As a result of the success of that bid, a new organisation – JazzAce – was established to promote and produce jazz activity in that area. It would be a small entity, with a chief executive, an administrator and great ambition.
