Repairs and Maintenance

During their working life, most carpenters and joiners will spend a great deal of their time repairing and/or maintaining various items associated with buildings and their contents.

Firms that specialize in this type of work tend to employ craftsmen who are flexible, in the sense that they are conversant with and capable of carrying out basic jobs outside their own specialist area. For example, a carpenter and joiner may be expected to glaze or re-glaze a window, or use a trowel and float to do some patchwork on a plastered wall or concrete floor. The ability to lay or renew broken tiles or slates may also be a requirement.
