ABSTRACT
People are not used efficiently across the work processes, whether we consider manufacturing or service industries. Individual capabilities are not always recognized and used to best effect, or development is not offered to enable individuals to maximize their contribution to the business as a whole; and so there is waste. Business assets or capital may be misused because they are not always suitable or appropriate to the current or future needs of that business. The business may not invest sufficiently in its equipment or machinery, requiring staff to spend time repairing or ‘making-do’, resulting in customer dissatisfaction and ultimately loss of money, another example of waste.
