ABSTRACT

An awareness campaign that sets out the benefits of waste reduction, while emphasizing the range of costs associated with waste, is a useful way of focusing attention on waste minimization. Individuals can be encouraged to identify sources of waste in their own area, and to offer suggestions for how waste might be reduced. It is important to encourage enthusiasm for the whole idea of waste reduction, but it can be all too easy for this to become a one-off campaign which quickly loses momentum and which is not deemed an important everyday issue.
