ABSTRACT

The Interactive Math and Statistics lessons were developed to teach math and statistics to a college audience. Each lesson takes a key math or statistic concept and uses audio, animation, video, text, and graphics to present this concept in an engaging way. The math editors of the Houghton Mifflin Company College Division conceived the idea for the Interactive Math and Statistics Lessons. The idea was refined and the Interactive Lessons software engine created by Dolphin MultiMedia, Inc. InterWrite performed a similar function as Larson Texts on the Interactive Math Lessons project, developing math and statistics content and creating the lesson elements. On the math and statistics interactive lessons, writer Hackshaw used several tools to write math symbols and present illustrations. The client's math editors help with this process of chunking by presenting the writer an outline of the concepts for a particular math or statistics concept, such as this outline for the time plots in script samples and screen shots.
