The second concept is that of ‘contingency’. This suggests that the appropriate interventions will depend on the circumstances of the organization; there will not be a best practice which is applicable to all situations. Where these two concepts of interventions and contingency come together is in the need for alignment. A critical role for the people development professional is to ensure that the resources committed to the learning, training and development effort reﬂect and reinforce business priorities.
