ABSTRACT

We have pulled our finest matte, refined it, and despilled the foreground layer. Now it is time to bring everything together in the composite. This chapter examines the three steps within the compositing operation itself in detail with an eye toward what goes on inside the typical compositing node. After a clear understanding of the compositing operation, there are production tips on how to refine and improve the overall appearance of all composites with edge blending and light wrapping. A soft comp/hard comp technique is described that can elegantly solve edge problems from difficult matte extraction situations.
