ABSTRACT

So far we have described various image processing algorithms and techniques as stand-alone systems. This chapter puts all of them together to meet the requirements of a digital cinema system. We are used to experiencing movies using film and film projectors. By digital cinema we mean delivery and projection of movies using digital data stored in a computer hard disk and digital projectors. Hence, we can consider digital cinema as a filmless movie. The Internet age has set the stage for presenting movies entirely in digital form. There will always be objection and lack of acceptance to any new ideas that replace age-old habits. This is very true in the movie industry, too. However, with the passage of time, digital cinema will become a common technology so why resist the inevitable to begin with?
