ABSTRACT
Mains electricity is produced in power stations like the one illustrated in the photo below.
This is one of the two generators at Ironbridge Power Station in Shropshire. Here the generators are driven by turbines. The turbines are turned by steam under pressure. The steam is produced in a coal-fired boiler. The rate of production of electrical energy from the chemical energy in coal is over 200 MW.
