ABSTRACT

A device’s preset patch settings can exist in several forms. The most basic of these is the factory preset. As the name implies, a factory preset is a bank of patches that have been programmed by the manufacturer to give the performer an initial set of sounds that are designed to be useful out of the box and to convince the potential customer to buy the product. In almost every circumstance, hardware devices encode these factory presets into battery-backed random access memory (RAM), where they will be stored until either the battery loses power (generally over a 5-year period) or the patch data is overwritten. In some circumstances, reinitializing the synth can restore these presets, although you should check with the manual to see if this feature is supported.
