Leaders as change agents
What it takes to be a leader in the 1990s and beyond is really about change. (Roberto Goizeta, late Chairman and CEO of the Coca-Cola Company)
Perhaps even more so in the early years of the new millennium than when Robert Goizeta made this statement, the core role of leadership in a corporate context is that of bringing about change. However, the task of leaders is not to bring about change for change’s sake. Change must achieve something worthwhile for the organization and its stakeholders. Nor must the process of change undermine the core purpose of the change initiative. Truly effective leaders build their organization’s resilience and adaptability through skilful change management. They do not embark on change in self-serving ways, purely to make their mark.
