Microphones and DI boxes
In order to amplify the sound and reproduce it in the PA system we first need to obtain a real-time impression or copy of it that we can use.We usually do this in one of two ways. One method is to use a microphone that absorbs the vibrations and converts them into electrical impulses. Another way is to intercept the instrument’s electrical output signal and use that, with a piece of equipment called a DI box. It’s useful to have a good idea about the various types of microphones and DI boxes available and what their different capabilities are.
