ABSTRACT

There is a capacitance C between the two conductors and, if the line is terminated by a short-circuit, an inductive loop L is formed. If the line length is doubled, the capacitance is doubled and the inductance of the loop is doubled, but the ratio L/C remains constant. The line may be considered to consist of a succession of unit lengths, each with capacitance and inductance as shown in Figure 1.5.1(b). The line is balanced, i.e. neither input terminal is at earth potential.
