ABSTRACT

It is possible to perform a basic set of audio measurements with quite simple equipment, using a single sinusoidal stimulus with a straightforward time-domain (filter and voltmeter) analysis. Such measurements are simple to perform, and are capable of verifying correct operation of a signal path, including a reasonable degree of quantitative performance measurement, although they fall short of the versatility and penetration requirements of a modern R&D or type-approval facility. Although these basic measurements were originally designed to expose shortcomings of analogue equipment, they are also relevant (although insufficient) in testing digital or mixeddomain installations.
