ABSTRACT

Content owners can protect the material they own with a single technology, but they often combine multiple schemes. In addition, as noted early, protecting content (and copyright) differs from managing copyright. Some of the technologies explored in this chapter protect content. Some manage rights and may even incorporate the terms of contracts with links back to systems that handle the distribution of royalties to the parties who are entitled to receive them. And even though the two tasks are not the same, there are some schemes that do both.
