ABSTRACT

Before we move on to the topics of fi nance, economics, marketing, and fundraising, we need to examine the areas of operational control, management information systems, and budgets. We have seen how planning helps set the organization’s direction and establish fi nancial resource needs. We have studied the organizing process to see how best to bring together people and resources. Our discussion of the leadership part of the process focused on effectively directing people in the utilization of resources. We now look at operational control, the part of the management process that ensures that the right things happen, in the right way, and at the right time. 1 We will also study how organizations need to establish internal communication systems and budgets as part of the overall control system in an organization.
