Today, the law has an unprecedented influence on work organizations and the employment relationship. Indeed, the regulatory impact on employers is a complex one that shows no signs of abatement. There are increasing arguments that the pace of regulatory influence on organizational and individual activity is excessive, or at least should be slowed or frozen. Bodies representing employers, such as the CBI and the Institute of Directors argue that excessive law is restraining economic growth and making the UK (and the EU) uncompetitive in global markets. Others such as the TUC say that there remain important gaps in individual and group protection that should be filled in order to create a fair society and a motivated, well-protected national workforce.
