ABSTRACT

In this theme we explore two main processes for materials planning, materials requirements planning (MRP) and Just-In-Time management.

MRP is a software based production planning and inventory control system used to manage manufacturing processes. It involves the calculation of the purchasing needs of the organisation based on its current stock levels and the predicted future requirements. An MRP system is intended to meet three objectives:

♦ Ensure materials and products are available for production and delivery to customers.
