This chapter considers the various approaches to the design of the task, with particular emphasis on method study:

The objective of balancing effectiveness and efficiency is just as important in the design of the task as in the design of the operation as a whole (see Chapter 3), although the consequences of a wrong decision are likely to be less damaging and more easily rectified. The task must above all achieve the required output, thereafter it should be carried out at minimum cost.
