ABSTRACT

What is human resource management? Human resource management, in business or sport organizations, is essentially about first, finding the right person for the right job at the right time, and second, ensuring an appropriately trained and satisfied workforce. The concepts that underpin effective human resource management are not particularly complex. However, the sheer size of some organizations, as well as the difficulties in managing unusual organizations in the sport industry, make human resource management a complex issue to deal with in practice. At the same time, successful sport leagues, clubs, associations, retailers and venues all rely on good human resources, both on and off the field to get their jobs done. Conversely, organizations with staff who lack motivation, are ill-suited to their work, under-paid or under-valued will struggle to perform.
