Nunavut: the involvement of indigenous communities in tourism in the Canadian Arctic

Nunavut In 1999 the Canadian government created a new territory – Nunavut – out of the Northwest Territories and settled land claims to some 350 000 square kilometres with the indigenous population. These are the Inuit – ‘the people’, but better known to the outside world as Eskimos (the name given to them centuries ago by the Cree Indians, meaning ‘eaters of raw meat’).
