ABSTRACT

Some of the most successful commercial games are sports simulations. Golf has been a popular game on computer since the beginning of the computer games industry and tennis sometimes makes the bestsellers. Downhill skiing and snowboarding are popular in the retail games arena and in the arcades. But one of the bestsellers worldwide is football. In this chapter we are going to look at how to create a football game. One of the central problems is in gathering user input when potentially there can be 11 players to control. Another feature of the game is the use of a roving camera to simulate TV coverage. Although a 3D game would certainly give a more realistic view of the game, the Flash presentation can still be very involving.
