ABSTRACT
Titles on early films were primitive when compared with those of today’s
productions. Titles were originally made up on cards or rolls of paper which
were then filmed directly in front of the camera. More sophisticated titles were
created using innovative methods such as painting onto glass and filming live
action in the background. Later, the optical printer enabled the level of
sophistication to reach new limits.
