European foodstuffs law and the consumer

Background On 1 January 1993, the Single European Internal Market was established within the European Union (EU). The focus of this and the following chapter is on how the literature views common foodstuffs law within the EU’s internal market, the enforcement practices within individual member states and the implications the internal market has had, or will have, for both the consumer and the hospitality firm (Fallows 1988, 1991; Friedhof, 1991).
