ABSTRACT

In everyday English people tend to use the words data and information to mean approximately the same thing. In computing, however, each term is distinguished from the other by being given a more specific meaning. This can be illustrated first by looking at a slightly unusual example which shows how the distinction between the two arises. After this the significance of data and information for organizations will be considered in detail.
