The increasing calls for faster, better, and cheaper performance can be extremely hard to accomplish in an environment characterized by operational information silos with duplication of effort, loss of valuable know-how because of turnover, and the tendency to repeat the same mistakes. Knowledge creation, sharing, and use are clearly linked to competitive advantage and meaningful business results. Long-term efforts such as KM call for clearly defined strategies paired with high levels of stakeholder commitment.
