Electric lighting controls
The controllability of electric lighting is its great asset. For a designer who has in mind a particular appearance for a display, or for a complete exhibition, scope is limited only by the inevitable concerns for conservation, energy use, and budget. In this chapter we review the range of opportunities that is made available by modern lighting equipment, while attempting not to get too involved in the details of lighting hardware. Developments in lamps and luminaires are occurring all the time, and for electronic controls, the pace of development is bewildering. This chapter seeks to describe generic trends in lighting controls, and readers who wish to acquaint themselves with the current state of display lighting technology will need to find their way to the appropriate websites and to open dialogue with the manufacturers and suppliers.
