ABSTRACT
Looking back at the earliest days of lighting design, those features that we now recognize as complex were evident in the design solutions of the time, and the daylighting design for an Egyptian Temple or Sta. Sophia in Constantinople in the sixth century would have been thought of as state of the art then. What has changed today more than anything is in the priority that must now be attached to the different elements of design.
