ABSTRACT

Once you have attracted the right candidates, you move into the next phase of recruitment, which is the selection of the right person for the job. Selection can be defined as choosing the best person for the job from among candidates who come from within the organization or from outside. It involves setting up fair selection processes which, as far as possible, are designed to predict how an individual will behave at work and whether he or she can perform a specific range of tasks adequately. We now look at the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of selection and give an overview of the selection process, and follow this by taking a look at the induction process, an area which is too often under-estimated or taken for granted:
