ABSTRACT

We saw in the previous chapter how we could, ideally, place one luminaire (if that was all we were allowed) in such a position as to create the impression of light coming from an imagined ‘sun’ or another natural source. This could cause us some difficulty if the desirable lighting angle cast too much shadow on the subject, and we had to either compromise by changing the angle of shine, or by putting the ‘sun’ behind a ‘cloud’, or in other words using a softer light source than we might have wished. Obviously these compromises reduce the aesthetic power of our lighting design, so let's now look at what we could do if the lighting budget were doubled and we were allowed two luminaires!
