ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the changes that have taken place and also takes a close look at the remaining differences between the new standards. The following is a combined list of changes to both standards with detailed explanations of why these changes have been made. The list of changes are as follows: program type name, fast program service name, location and navigation, open data applications, enhanced radio-paging protocol, language identification, decoder information, and extended country code. All changes have been devised to be fully compatible with the old standard, while offering a tremendous amount of growth. The elimination of this group can be included in encoder upgrades to the new Standard. The Program Type Name contained within group 10A has been added to the Radio Data system Standard (RDS). The Fast Program Service is defined in group type 15A of the Radio Broadcast Data System Standard and is not defined in the RDS Standard.
