Quantifying the way we work
There has to be another way forward. Here a precedent has already been found on the economic front, for much of the to-ing and fro-ing of business communications lends itself to enumeration. A few figures can contain a vast amount of information. People exchange figures. They trade in estimates and actuals. They muse over figures before they make decisions. Many top managers are figure people to a supreme degree. Without figures they would be lost. Ten figures -from nought to nine in their various arrangements - constitute all that is, or ever has been, conveyed in numerical information.
